23 Dec NN #22: A Big Seasonal Thank You!
This week we just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been involved with the Neighbourhood Network/Street Feast journey over the past year…
Thank you!
When we realised in early 2020 that Street Feast couldn’t go ahead for the first time in over a decade, we decided to focus our efforts on bringing communities together safely in other ways. The response to Neighbourhood Network has been incredible and we can’t wait to help grow and build more community connections in 2021.
We want to wrap up for the end of the year by wishing you the best for the Holidays. We hope you have a joyous Christmas time, a lovely Winter Solstice and a Happy New Year!
Let’s take a look at some of the things bringing us joy this week and how you can spread some cheer in your own neighbourhoods!
Get in the Festive Spirit
The usual holiday celebrations like gathering to turn on the Christmas lights, heading out to the Panto and visiting Santa have not been as accessible this year. Here are a couple of new traditions to get going this Christmas!
Host a Christmas Parade
One lovely thing we’ve noticed a few neighbourhoods around the country doing though is hosting a Christmas or Santa parade! Check out our guide on how to make this happen in your own area.
Watch the Winter Solstice at Newgrange
The Winter Solstice can be a lovely time to come together as a community and mark the changing seasons and the lengthening of days to come. This year, the Office of Public Works has had to cancel visits to Newgrange for the Winter Solstice as a result of the pandemic. Instead they are live streaming the event here on the 20th, 21st & 22nd. So if you missed the first two mornings you might still be able to catch a glimpse of the sunlight entering Newgrange first thing tomorrow morning!
An Exciting Year Ahead
Just last week we received the news that Neighbourhood Network has been awarded a grant from the RTÉ Does Comic Relief Fund, which will go towards some brilliant community campaigns in 2021.
We have also been working with organisations across the country to develop some amazing new projects which will start rolling out in the New Year, such as our exciting Cross Generational Project with Creative Ireland and Wicklow County Council. If you live in Wicklow and are interested in getting involved, pop an email over to [email protected] for more information.
If you’re looking for something else to help get your neighbourhood going in the New Year, we are still accepting new registrations for our Community Activity Challenge! Neighbourhoods everywhere can get involved with these activities and with just a few simple steps you will be eligible for your own free Community Activity Pack!

Mind Each Other…
We all know that this time of year can be a mix of lovely and difficult feelings for people everywhere.
If you have a spare moment this week, think of the neighbours who may need a boost and drop them in a few mince pies, a Christmas card or call them up for a chat. Connection and community has never been so important, just remember to socially distance and keep each other safe.
It’s been a strange and challenging year for us all, but through your acts of community kindness you’ve made a difference.
Thank you and Happy Holidays from all of us here,
