05 Jan Our New Wicklow Cross-Generational Project
We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in their community.
We’ve teamed up with Creative Ireland and Wicklow County Council to a bring simple, fun community project to Wicklow and we want you to get involved! With an unpredictable winter ahead of us, we are worried that older people who are isolating are becoming increasingly forgotten or distanced from society. Be a part of an amazing artistic cross-generational community project to create a sense of love and connection in your neighbourhood!
We are looking for people in Wicklow to work with on our ‘community time capsule’ project, or as we like to call it, The Time Machine! The ‘Time Machine’ involves connecting young people in your neighbourhood to senior members of the area who have been cocooning.
A community organiser (that’s you!) will help to connect a teenager with a senior member of the community via phone call, zoom or socially distanced meet-up. We will provide templates for interviews and encourage a cross-generational artistic response (anything from a video or poem to a drawing or a collage- the sky’s the limit!) to try and create a unique snapshot from a multi-generational point of view.
The interview, artistic expression and professional portrait of each interviewee will then go into the digital time capsule to mark this historic time.
Working with us
We will send you a pack with everything you need for your time machine project. We’ll also organise for a professional portrait photographer to visit the older person to take their (socially distanced) picture to go with their interview.
We will be here to support you every step of the way and send you everything you need for the Time Machine- including our free Community Activity Pack, which contains loads of fun extra community boosting activities for you and your neighbours!
Why get involved?
This is a brilliant way to connect your community by offering powerful social experiences for both young and older generations alike, igniting a sense of purpose in their communities and helping to combat isolation.
